‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone’. Now I truly
started to grasp the meaning of this profound saying.
My new life began the day I got on that plane. I left
everything behind,- my job, my friends, my home. Getting on that plane was like
doing spring cleaning in the middle of winter, when you throw away all of your
old clothes, do the laundry, change sheets and repaint cracks on the walls.
Except that my cleaning is deeper than this. It’s the cleaning of my own soul,
emptying my own heart, getting rid of all bad habits and finding the inner
peace.
By coming here I separated myself from everything that stood
between me and Allah (swt), torn my heart wide open and got ready to let Him
in, got ready to allow Him to change my life. No change comes easily. I got out
of the environment that I was used to and placed myself in the hands of another
culture, climate, people, and it is all for one reason- to catch the only hand
worth holding on to- The hand of our Creator.
Sometimes the part of Allah’s plan is to get us away from
home in order to bring us Home. It’s a long journey through the rivers of our
own nafs (ego), through the valleys of our own selfishness and desserts of our
weaknesses. But there is a light in the end of the tunnel- you just need to get
there.
‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. So if you’re
feeling uncomfortable right now, know that the change taking place in your life
is a beginning, not an ending.’- Neale Donald Walsch.
